Android devices have gone from the little toddlers to the powerhouses of mobile smartphones in the world today. As at present day, activations of android phones must be nearing billions with the wide range of phones available for all pocket sizes. Several versions of the android OS have been made with the newest version - Android 5.0 (nicknamed Lollipop).
Whenever android is mentioned, one procedure comes to mind - ROOTING. This brings us to the question. What is Rooting? To learn the whole lot about rooting, you could read the full gist here . I would try to summarize all the grammar and jargon to give you an interesting insight to What you need to know about rooting.

WHAT IS ROOTING?
Rooting is the process of allowing users of smartphones, tablets, and other devices running the Android mobile operating system to attain privileged control (known as "root access") within Android's sub-system. In English, rooting is a method to help you gain full control of your device. You probably have bought an android smartphone claiming to have, maybe, 4GB ROM but only have 1.5GB or in some worse cases 1GB accessible to you to use for installation of apps and you've wondered why? Or You want to customize your smartphone and change the boot-animation to show something different from the Samsung logo Or you want to join the band wagon of tweaking your IMEI and enjoying benefits you are not entitled too, to do all these you'd require root access to your phones.

Root access is sometimes compared to jailbreaking devices running the Apple iOS operating system. However, these are different concepts. Jailbreaking describes the bypass of several types of Apple prohibitions for the end user: modifying the operating system (enforced by a "locked bootloader"), installing non-officially approved apps via sideloading, and granting the user elevated administration-level privileges. Only a minority of Android devices lock their bootloaders—and many vendors such as HTC, Sony, Asus and Google explicitly provide the ability to unlock devices, and even replace the operating system entirely.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF ROOTING MY DEVICE?

  • Backup the whole device in case anything goes wrong.

  • Ability to change IMEI, increase RAM and upgrade Android OS.
WHAT ARE THE DANGERS OF ROOTING MY DEVICE?
Luckily, following the right instructions on rooting your device, there are no real dangers in rooting and android smartphone. However, it is worth noting that rooting your device may void your warranty and is regarded as a copyright infringement in some foreign countries.

HOW DO I ROOT MY DEVICE?
Methods of rooting a device may range from very simple to complex endeavors but i would like to mention that NO android device is "unrootable", for some it might just take a very long and boring process while some can be rooted in less than 5 minutes.
Several apps can be used to root android devices, some of which could be done from the devices locally (towelroot, kingroot, poot, framaroot e.t.c) while some require the use of PC apps such as (SRS Root, Root Genius, ADB terminal e.t.c).
